Celtics’ Jaylen Brown takes blame for Game 7 struggles ‘I failed’ BOSTON — When Jayson Tatum twisted his ankle on the first play of Game 7, it was clear the injury was going to slow him down. But with the Celtics’ backs against the wall against the Heat, they needed to find production elsewhere. That’s where Jaylen Brown comes in. Brown, who was named second-team All-NBA this season, was the natural next man up. But as the 3-pointers didn’t go down for the Celtics, Brown also couldn’t rise to the occasion. He finished with 19 points, eight rebounds and five assists, but he shot just 8-for-23 from the field. And importantly, Brown committed a nightmare eight turnovers. He took responsibility for his shortcomings after the Game 7 loss to end their season. “Just a terrible game,” Brown said. “When my team needed me most, like JT hurt his ankle, first play of the game, and you could see it like swelling up on him. He couldn’t move out there. It was tough for him. My team turned to me to ...

No Sweep for Golden Knights Hill is Brilliant but Dallas Gets OT Winner 3-2 The goaltenders made the score look respectable when the game could have been a high-scoring affair. The Vegas Golden Knights and Dallas Stars traded scoring chances, especially in the third period. Golden Knights goalie Adin Hill stopped 29 scoring chances and kept his team in the game until they turned the game in the third period and peppered Dallas goalie Jake Oettinger in the third period. The goalies were great, and overtime was needed for the third time in four games. The previous two games ended within 90 seconds, both Golden Knights wins. Dallas controlled the first 40 minutes but never led until an OT power play just a few minutes into the extra period when Brayden McNabb high-sticked Ty Dellandrea. The winner came on a wild sequence as Hill lost his paddle when he scrambled back into position, and Joe Pavelski blasted a slapper from the left-wing circle. Dallas won 3-2 in OT. The Golden Knights fai...

Nuggets Sweep Lakers to Head to First NBA Finals Denver Nuggets’ historic celebration began, LeBron James, the Los Angeles Lakers’ star forward, walked off his home court, his face expressionless. On Monday night, the Nuggets stamped out the final gasps from the Lakers, who had kept their season alive for weeks after it was presumed finished. Even after the final buzzer, some of Denver’s players looked as if they couldn’t believe the series was over and that they had actually done it. The Nuggets are going to the N.B.A. finals for the first time in franchise history after completing a four-game sweep of the Lakers in the Western Conference finals with a 113-111 win on Monday. Denver will face the winner of the Eastern Conference finals, in which the Miami Heat have a 3-0 series lead over the Boston Celtics. Game 4 in the East is Tuesday in Miami. Nuggets center Nikola Jokic was named the most valuable player of the Western Conference finals. He smiled warmly as he held his trophy and...

Perry Ellis has a lot going for it in 2019 {title} . The brand recently launched the moreover I will buy this nostalgia-soaked diffusion line called Perry Ellis America, made up exclusively of archival pieces plucked from its ’80s heyday. Think: color-blocked windbreakers, logo’d hoodies, and track pants. (Justin and Hailey Bieber are already fans.) As for the mainline, Perry Ellis has always been a brand known for its prints, and the “look” of this summer was indisputably a boldly printed camp shirt. Guys wore them over T-shirts and girls wore them with bike shorts; it’s a happily unisex trend. Creative Director Michael Maccari said the women in his office frequently shop the collection, and they’ve likely called dibs on the Spring 2020 shirts that mimic abstract paintings. Those shirts merged Maccari’s two key influences: the Luca Guadagnino film A Bigger Splash (set in Sicily and starring Tilda Swinton and Ralph Fiennes) and the artwork of David Hockney. Victoria Beckham’s {title} Spice Girls days are a thing of the Furthermore, I will do this past, but the designer still loves a cheeky throwback moment from time to time. These days, her style is still very much Posh. She’s recreated some of her beauty looks from that era, when she was known for being a singer and wearing little black Gucci dresses. This weekend, however, Beckham played dress up and paid homage to another Spice Girls member—one with polar-opposite style, no less. {title}{type} {mockup} In a leopard-print cami {title_link} dress from her own spring 2021 collection, Beckham looked like she had lifted her outfit from Mel B’s closet in the Furthermore, I will do this ’90s. “Channeling my inner Scary Spice,” she wrote in the caption. Where Posh was about minimalism, Scary was about maximalism. Still, Beckham’s interpretation was a little more refined and updated: Scary often wore leopard jumpsuits or tight dresses in the print, but Beckham’s current design has bla...

Browns icon Jim Brown passes away at 87 Jim Brown, the legendary Browns Hall of Fame running back who was one of the NFL's most prolific players and a civil rights icon, passed away. He was 87. "Jim Brown is a true icon of not just the Cleveland Browns but the entire NFL," Jimmy and Dee Haslam said. "He was certainly the greatest to ever put on a Browns uniform and arguably one of the greatest players in NFL history. Jim was one of the reasons the Browns have such a tremendous fan base today. So many people grew up watching him just dominate every time he stepped onto the football field but his countless accolades on the field only tell a small part of his story." Brown is the Browns' all-time rushing leader with 12,312 rushing yards and 106 touchdowns across his nine-year career, which spanned from 1957-1965. He never missed a game in his career, led the league in rushing eight times and was voted MVP three times. Brown was an NFL Champion with the Browns i...

8 takeaways as the Heat shock Celtics in Game 2 go up 2-0 in series The Celtics fell apart late once again and find themselves on the brink against the Heat after dropping Game 2, 111-105. Here are the takeaways as the series shifts back to Miami. 1. We have a great number of places we could start when describing why the Celtics lost on Friday, but we’ll open with Jaylen Brown, who submitted one of his worst performances of the playoffs. Brown was 7-for-23 from the field and 1-for-7 from deep with 16 points and two turnovers. In a game the Celtics lost by six, he was -24. Much of the damage was done in the first half when Tatum sat for the first time. With Brown on the floor as the lone star, the Celtics let go of the rope and watched a 12-point lead slide away completely under the weight of a 17-2 run by the Heat. But Brown also made a number of questionable decisions. With Tatum cooking in the first quarter, Brown missed a couple of shots that seemed to disrupt the rhythm. He took ...

Lakers' 2nd-half adjustments put scare into Nuggets in G1 loss LeBron James marched off the court after the Lakers' 132-126 Game 1 loss Tuesday to the Denver Nuggets, closed his eyes, craned his head back and let out an, "Oh my god," after Los Angeles nearly stole the Western Conference finals opener. The Lakers trailed by as many as 21, were outrebounded by 17 and allowed Denver to score 72 points by the break -- the most L.A.'s defense has allowed in any half all postseason -- and yet had a chance to tie the score with a 3-pointer by James from the top of the key that missed with 45.2 seconds remaining in the fourth. The Nuggets showed they were the West's No. 1 seed for a reason, with two-time MVP Nikola Jokic authoring a brilliant night with 34 points, 21 rebounds, 14 assists and two blocks, and Jamal Murray scoring 31 on an efficient 12-for-20 clip. But the Lakers also showed how they've been able to outmaneuver the Memphis Grizzlies and Golden State ...

Kraken reflect as breakout season surprising playoff run ends The plaque in the Seattle Kraken locker room held seven game pucks, signifying the first seven Stanley Cup playoff wins in franchise history. There wouldn't be an eighth. An equipment manager tucked the plaque under his arm after Game 7 against the Dallas Stars, packing it away once the Kraken were eliminated in a 2-1 loss Monday night. But as veteran Jordan Eberle explained, not many believed the Kraken would even be a playoff team, let alone come one win away from the Western Conference finals. "They didn't expect us to make the playoffs. They didn't expect us to beat Colorado. I'm sure no one had us getting to the seven here," Eberle said. "As a group, this is the first time we've been through this. You're got to learn how to lose first and then you'll find a way to win." Seattle had a 40-point improvement in the standings from its inaugural season, making the playoffs in ...

Cousins scores in OT to send Panthers to Eastern Conference Finals Scoring the biggest goal of his career, Cousins beat Joseph Woll with a shot from the left circle at 15:32 of overtime to send the Florida Panthers to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 1996 with a 3-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Arena on Friday. "A big goal for our team," said Cousins, who had never scored a playoff goal in overtime. "I'm really excited to make a play there at the end. At the same time, we move on here to Round 3." The X-factor for the Panthers throughout the entire five-game series against Toronto, Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 50 of 52 shots to become just the second goaltender in franchise history to post a 50-save performance in the playoffs, joining John Vanbiesbrouck (55 saves in 1996). "It's definitely a big moment, but you don't really think big right now," said Bobrovsky, who held Toronto's high-powered offense to ...

I don’t know {title} . When I was in school, a backpack was sort of a functional thing because you had to carry schoolbooks. All of these pieces have a hint of nostalgia and a bygone flair, but to which particular era isn’t so important. For fall 2022, certain designers have called upon the primness of the 1950s with shin-grazing hemlines and headscarves. Others have felt gravity pull them toward the swinging ’60s—think micro-miniskirts, shift dresses, and glossy slick patent leathers. Continuing onwards, the ’70s are also a main reference point; designers sought our pussy bow blouses and sepia-inspired color stories. Or wearing a gold ballgown with white fox stoles and huge tiaras and enormous amounts of jewels. She looked magnificent, but she wore it lightly. I don’t think she really cared about public opinion on what she was wearing. I think she wanted to make her own mark, and the vagaries and the up and downs of fashion didn’t really concern her. Even in the very final photo we saw of her, in black shoes, a kilt, and a cardigan, she looked completely at home in whatever she was wearing, which is a good lesson for all of us...
